Spay and Neuter Surgery for Cats and Dogs at VetQueens

Spaying or neutering your pet is one of the most important health decisions you can make for their well-being and longevity. At VetQueens Animal Hospital, located on Queens Blvd in Rego Park, NY, we provide compassionate, affordable, and professional spay and neuter services for cats and dogs. Whether you’re a new pet owner or have lived in New York for years, you can trust our veterinary team to care for your beloved companion with expertise and kindness.

Why Spaying or Neutering Matters

Veterinary research shows that pets who are spayed or neutered live longer, healthier lives. Spaying females before their first heat cycle dramatically reduces the risk of uterine infections and mammary gland tumors. Neutering males helps prevent testicular cancer and reduces prostate issues. These procedures also minimize behaviors such as roaming, aggression, marking, and excessive vocalization.

Statistics prove it: pets in states with high spay/neuter rates live up to 18–23% longer. Most importantly, these surgeries do not affect your pet's personality or protective instincts—they simply help them live a healthier life.

Helping to Prevent Pet Overpopulation

Millions of unwanted pets enter shelters in the U.S. every year. Many of them are the unplanned offspring of family pets. Spaying or neutering is the only 100% effective, permanent method of birth control for animals—and it’s a vital step toward reducing euthanasia and homelessness in our community.

When Should You Spay or Neuter?

  • Cats: Spay or neuter by 4–5 months of age to avoid unwanted behaviors like spraying and reduce the risk of pregnancy.
  • Dogs: Traditional neutering age is 6 to 9 months, but healthy puppies as young as 8 weeks can be safely sterilized. Adult dogs can also be spayed or neutered, though risks are slightly higher for older or overweight pets.

Our veterinarians will help determine the ideal time for your pet’s procedure based on their age, breed, and health status.

Behavioral Benefits of Spay & Neuter Surgery

In addition to medical advantages, spaying or neutering often improves behavior:

  • Reduces urine-marking and territorial aggression.
  • Decreases roaming and escape attempts.
  • Minimizes excessive barking, mounting, and dominance-related behaviors.
  • Helps solve issues like fighting among male animals or heat-related anxiety in females.

However, the sooner these behaviors are addressed, the more effective the surgery will be in reducing them.
